Dan Busta – Squeeze
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010A portrait of a the band Eating Faces. This shot showcases the craziness that is the percussion and sound of the band. This angle was Initially concepted by Collins Schude, the drummer. We took it to the next level by squeezing all the accessories and equipment into very tight frame. I then shot from the balcony down 4 stories with a telephoto lens.

Monday, May 31st, 2010For this assignment I decided to shoot some 4X5 film. Its not my typical style to shoot 4X5 and natural light but I think this strait photography compliments my choice in subject well. These archers I found are using composite bow which is one of the older and more challenging types of archery. Anything to produced wouldn’t tell the story the same, I even found the sun to feel too hard and abrasive.
I actually shot this assignment twice. The first attempt didn’t quite make it for me and I new I could get better, more emoting shots, even with the bulky 4X5. Going back to the range I brought two of the pictures from the first shoot. Everyone there was really excited to see them physically. By bringing the prints the Archers where excited to get photographed and motivated to contribute in the shoot. I made a decent group shot and then asked if any one wanted singles. This man agreed (his name escapes me, but I’ll get it) and we spent some minuets getting this amazing portrait right after the sun ducked beyond the valley wall. Photographed on fuji velvia RVP rated at 25, I decided to opt into the 15th of a sec instead of paying the crazy 4 dollar push fee.
heres one from the first shoot.

Monday, December 28th, 2009For this assignment, I was inspired by the words “stay away from a perfectly exposed image” & deep dark shadows. Most times all I do is worry about how perfect my exposure is because in digital many times you can’t afford to be off at all. For this assignment, I purposely underexposed my images for the effect. It was a dark, cold and rainy Malibu day. We were shooting in a cold, dark and empty Malibu home. I went with it and brought the atmosphere and darkness into the image by underexposing the image I think the end result and effect worked in favor of the fashion story.
