Father to Son - A family business.
My grandfather started a small fire extinguisher company out the back of a beat up pick up truck in a small rural town outside of Pittsburgh, PA in the mid 50′s.
This business has grown to 80+ employees and a handing down through the generations.
My parents have given me the freedom to choose a path that makes me happy, I’ve chosen not to stay within the family business.
My brother on the other hand, along with his wife have joined the family business with in the past 4 years and are rapidly approaching a point where my father will step down.
To be an outsider watching this transition unfold, I have no choice then to document it.
The slowing down of one chapter of my father’s life and the speeding up of my brothers. This is the cycle of life. I can’t imagine how my father feels. I know he has trained my brother well.
I feel that this image really encapsulates that transition I’m witnessing between them.
Photographed on location at the warehouse in Greensburg, PA

This assignment started a 3 month long documentary story of a local coffee roastery, opening its doors. The photos are from my first visit to the location and I plan to visit every 2 weeks for the next few months. I will have image updates on my blog here.

Title: Documentary Photo Story
Assigner: Colin Young-Wolff
Description: Find a subject or issue that moves you and spend some time with it (whether that means a few hours or a few days is up to you). Use still photographs to tell the story, hopefully revealing something about the character or essence of the subject that a series of snapshots wouldn’t show. Revisit it again if needed.
You can post 3-4 images on TIAPB and then link to a full photo gallery if needed for your story.

Baking bread! I’ve been baking bread regularly for the past six months or so. I don’t use a bread machine, but rather my hands and an oven.

I realized when we gave this assignment… it took me a while to really solidify what my other passion was. When asked what is your passion, my auto answer is photography. So being that
THISISAPHOTOBLOG and you’ve assigned us the task of identifying and creating an image of our OTHER PASSION ( assuming other then photography) I have to say I was stuck.
I thought of many things, my finance, my dog Walter, cooking, gardening ect.
Then we took a much needed mini vacation to Zion Utah (one of my most favorite places on earth) a few weekends ago & I got back on the rock for the first time since October and realized my other passion truly and with out a doubt is CLIMBING.
I’ve attached two pics of me climbing a 460+ ft route called “Lead by Sheep” in Zion Utah.
~ Keep on Rockin!

Beach volleyball is my other passion.
Just starting my second season of playing competitively. If I’m not shooting or editing, then I’m at the beach playing or training. In fact, I just came from the beach and I’m pretty sure I still have sand in my hair.
Life is good.
(My coach, Steven Ijams, was kind enough to be my subject. He’s a badass. Thanks Steve!)

I have way too many hobbies. But one that transcends hobby, and is more of a passion, is music. I’ve played in terrible punk bands since high school, and go to shows on a regular basis.
Last week I had the pleasure of seeing Coalesce play in NYC. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve seen them, and I brought my trusty point and shoot, loaded with slide film.

Weightlifting!!! We had a bunch of gold painted weights left over from a shoot I just shot so I did a little set up with my assistant Zach pumping iron to some tunes.
