Monday, May 31st, 2010For this assignment I decided to shoot some 4X5 film. Its not my typical style to shoot 4X5 and natural light but I think this strait photography compliments my choice in subject well. These archers I found are using composite bow which is one of the older and more challenging types of archery. Anything to produced wouldn’t tell the story the same, I even found the sun to feel too hard and abrasive.
I actually shot this assignment twice. The first attempt didn’t quite make it for me and I new I could get better, more emoting shots, even with the bulky 4X5. Going back to the range I brought two of the pictures from the first shoot. Everyone there was really excited to see them physically. By bringing the prints the Archers where excited to get photographed and motivated to contribute in the shoot. I made a decent group shot and then asked if any one wanted singles. This man agreed (his name escapes me, but I’ll get it) and we spent some minuets getting this amazing portrait right after the sun ducked beyond the valley wall. Photographed on fuji velvia RVP rated at 25, I decided to opt into the 15th of a sec instead of paying the crazy 4 dollar push fee.
heres one from the first shoot.

Friday, May 28th, 2010Above are a few of my photos from the LA Galaxy’s playoff victory over Chivas USA last season. The Galaxy eventually lost to Seattle in the MLS Finals in perhaps Beckham’s final game with the team. Full gallery here on laweekly.com

I managed to get out to Venice Beach one recent afternoon. It was foggy and gorgeous and the surfers were taking advantage of the waves.

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010I spent a few weeks in Treviso, Italy in 2006. At the end of each day, I would spend time watching Italian kids practice soccer. I was amazed my the talent and discipline the young athletes possessed. These photographs are a few memories I have, from my cold fall evenings I would spend observing them.

Monday, May 10th, 2010I hope this isn’t illegal, but I made some animated gif’s for this assignment. Long story short, I got a little video camera. I still don’t understand how to use video editing programs, but I do know Photoshop. So I put these little guys together. I definitely plan on doing more soon.

*pardon the large file sizes and the small visual size. I didn’t want them to be too huge, so I scaled them down.

Sports
Saturday, May 1st, 2010Title: Sports
Assigner: Corey Seeholzer
Description: The assignment for April is “SPORTS” or “SPORT” as the Europeans say. I remember having sports assignments in school and finding it a challenge to make it work for myself because it wasn’t something I was particularly interested in. So, I guess the fun part of this assignment for the non-sporty among us will be making it ours. This could be anything from live action stuff, to a portrait of an athlete, a fashion story with sport theme, shot of an empty stadium . . . you get the idea. Have fun, and I look forward to seeing your posts!
