Karl Puchlik – Self Portrait

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I used Ryan Schudes theatrical style for my portrait inspiration.

Christopher Dibble – Self Portrait

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I was inspired by Manjari Sharma’s two photograph’s of women in nature, both of whom seem to be rolling backwards.  I was excited to get outside and shoot with natural light.  I used the concept of the figure rolling back and took it to a state of extreme relax.

José Mandojana – Self Portrait

I found Melissa Manning’s work to be very intimate due to the polaroid look she has going on. So here’s me breaking out some Px-70 from the Impossible Project.

Blake Sinclair – Self Portrait

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I started photographing my wife Jennifer every day with a single sheet of 4×5 film. The project will last for the entirety of her 3rd trimester, and I used one of the days to complete my “self portrait” assignment.

I used Chris Dibbles quiet, solid portraits as inspiration for the composition and mood.

Lauren Randolph – Self Portrait

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I was inspired by J. Wesley Brown’s night portraits. All of his images have a very surreal stillness to them, and I’m fascinated by the way his eye searches out light in the dark.

Andrea LaBarge Mills – Self Portrait

I really kind of dreaded doing this assignment, because it’s a huge challenge to see what the camera sees from in front of it. So it was funny to me in retrospect that I chose to do a double exposure – as if a single shot wasn’t bad enough! But in looking at the work of my fellow TIAPB contributors, I really loved Alexa Miller’s fashion work with multiple images, so I had to go where inspiration took me. Here are some of the images that informed my self portrait:

Alan Gastelum- Self Portrait

I have always been a fan of Ryan Schude’s photography, especially his multi person landscapes, mostly found in his book “one” on his website. I was specifically inspired by the smoke within a few of those images and I wanted to experiment with smoke more. Thanks Ryan for the inspiration!

Tamar Levine- Self-Portrait

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

For my self-portrait I used Jennie Warren’s photography as inspiration. She always uses really fun colors and interesting angles, sometimes getting very close to the subject. This was a verrrry challenging assignment for me!

Manjari Sharma, Self-Portrait

Monday, July 19th, 2010

I am not one to usually take self portraits so I tried a hand at something that allowed me to somehow hide but still be a dominant part of the image. I was inspired by Alan Gastelum’s color sensibility for my palette choice.

Jana and a banana

Everyone use to call me jana banana so I did a self portrait of me holding a banana… inspired from the lifestyle of Alexa Miller and the color treatments of Andrea La Barge Mills personal works ..

Ryan Schude – Self Portrait

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

I used Corey Seeholzer’s gunman as a reference.

Jennifer Becker-Self-Portrait

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I really enjoyed this assignment but it was definitely one of the most difficult for me. Being pregnant I wanted to make sure I showed off the belly (love handles and all) and did something that was a little out of the ordinary for a pregnant shot. I was immediately drawn to Lauren Ward’s work. I absolutely love how natural, spontaneous, and fun her work is. There is also a lot of motion which I wanted to really pull from. It was fun to try something different.
