Andrea LaBarge Mills – The Landscape Revisited

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

I was especially excited that this assignment came along for the month in which I was traveling to Ecuador. While there I visited a variety of places, from Mindo, a tiny ecological preserve in the cloud forest (top photo), to the capital city of Quito (bottom photo).

Please visit my tumblr for more photos from the trip.

Andrea LaBarge Mills – Self Portrait

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I really kind of dreaded doing this assignment, because it’s a huge challenge to see what the camera sees from in front of it. So it was funny to me in retrospect that I chose to do a double exposure – as if a single shot wasn’t bad enough! But in looking at the work of my fellow TIAPB contributors, I really loved Alexa Miller’s fashion work with multiple images, so I had to go where inspiration took me. Here are some of the images that informed my self portrait:

I managed to get out to Venice Beach one recent afternoon. It was foggy and gorgeous and the surfers were taking advantage of the waves.

Andrea LaBarge Mills – Documentary

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I spent a few days in the hospital last month, right after this was assigned. Armed with nothing more than a few magazines to keep me entertained (I didn’t expect to be there as long as I was), I took the following shots of my surroundings to keep busy and fight boredom.

Andrea LaBarge Mills – Everyone Is A Photographer

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Since I’m stuck in a Verizon contract and won’t buy a new phone until next month when I can switch to AT&T (yeah, iPhone!), I have a cell phone camera that’s the pits. So I don’t use it much, except for the purpose of sending my husband pictures of our dogs sleeping. So, here’s a shot I took while sitting for my neighbor’s new puppy.

[with the cell]

[with the 5D]

The biggest difference is the light sensitivity. Interestingly, once I pulled out the 5D, I switched into photographer mode and started playing a bit. I guess I’m one of those people who needs a “real camera” in my hands to really turn on. That’s when I noticed Shoup’s cute little frog-leg position while he sleeps:

Andrea LaBarge Mills – Solstice

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I’ve been wanting to play around a bit with collaging and digital art. Even though it likely won’t find its way into my portfolio or “work” work, I love having this venue to try new things.
