uhhhhhhhh, damn! well done on the post (and the light) tamar and rob, shit looks perfect. can’t wait for the rest of the series, it’s gonna be next level for sure.
and jennie, the reflection in the window brings this already amazing location up a notch, where is this? nice composition as well…

Thanks Ryan. This was in a dome house in Eagle Rock- location provided by the band. Yeah, got lucky on that reflection.

Jennie- I love this shot! The location and poses are so great. Are they a band?
Tamar- I’m seriously so excited to see more of these. Its one of those photos where you can stare at it for a really long time and keep finding neat stuff. You guys did really good with this!
Blake- I know it was like 10 degrees out and you woke up at 5 am to take these shots so you’re a trooper. They are beautiful and well worth it!

Tamar – That looks great! I’d love to see a hi-res file of that image, if you’re not ascared of showing whats going on behind the curtain. hehe.
Jennie – What a cool location. Reminds me of these little rocket ships at a playground. And being able to see the trees through the windows totally throws off my perception of the light.
Jenn – I know i tried to tell you to make this black and white, but im glad you kept it color. The darkness with hints of twisted color helps the mood a lot.

Sorry to be so late, I went out of town and didn’t realize it was February already! I love Tamar’s robot series, this will be a wonderful series! Keep this up. Blake, I find your second shot eerie in a good way. I think the hooded wet suit transforms the man into a half man half sea creature.

Tamar/Rob – awesome. Really looks great. How much is real and how much is plastic?
Jennie – Great shot. Really lovely and mysterious. And, I love a geo home!
Jennifer – Beautiful light. Glad its in color. At the risk of you taking offence, its very Tillmans, Goldin – in the most beautiful way and made YOUR’S. Just an essence.
Blake – Ugh – sounds like an early early too early morning. I love the angle of the light and the water color. Is this in NY?
Brad – Dang! Quite a setup! I assume you have a studio? I wanna know what she’s concocting! Ill be up in SF next week or the following – Id love to meet your hound dog.
Claire – Oh, Claire. There is just something about your aesthetic that I fall in love with. Really cute shot. And, are you as sad as I am that Domino magazine folded? Boo! First Cosmo Girl, then Mens Vogue and now Domino? Whos next?!

I think everyone turned in really great work for this assignment!
This is going to be a stupidly long comment I think.
Claire- I am always excited to see what interpretation you will take with the assignments. I really like this idea, it’s so clever!
Jenn- Your dog series is developing so well. I am so excited to see more and more of the shots.
Jennie- I agree with everyone…Very awesome location and a cool, different take on a band shot.
Blake- pretty pretty pretty
Brad- I love this. It is clever and very well art directed.
Chris- I love your portraits and I love seeing them develop on this blog.
Chris- Here is the basic breakdown…
I lit , set up the scene, and photographed Dawn in position, wearing a bald cap. Our makeup artist also added shine to her skin. The head sitting on the table in the foreground was a mannequin head. I then photographed the scene with no model in it from the exact same spot, so Rob had a clean background to work with and could take out parts of Dawn’s body.
I then photographed various tubes and wires and mechanical parts we bought from Home Depot in roughly the position they would be in the final image, so Rob would have materials to use that were already in the proper lighting. I then photographed the model’s face in roughly the same place as where the mannequin head was, so the girl’s face could easily be inserted onto the mannequin head.
I gave Rob all those elements to play with. He also ended up hand-painting some elements such as the seams on her face and body and fixed the transition between the bald cap and her head. The next photos in the series will probably have more constructed robotic limbs as we hope to find a prop master or someone that can help construct them for us.
Blake- yes you can see a high res! If you click on the image it is higher res but I can always email you an even bigger image.

tamar & rob – totally awesome, that looks perfect. love the attention to detail.
christopher – love your light on this one. and actually no i do not have a studio (i wish). i shot that one in a hallway at the UC Berkeley biology lab in (my friend is a PhD student there, she snuck us in late one night). if you are going to be in SF feel free to email/call me!
jennie – awesome location and i love the reflection too.
claire – since the rest of us are more into portraits it is really cool to see what you do with the themes. love your aesthetic.
blake – you're on the east coast right? isn't it a little cold to be surfing there? nice shots.
jennifer – i also agree that i like it in color. awesome light and mood.
